Citations and directories: the safe way to approach them
How to think about directories and citations without creating spam or thin doorway pages.
Think “accuracy” before “quantity”
The goal is to be listed correctly in places customers actually use. Start with the biggest platforms in your country and industry, then expand carefully.
Avoid low-quality submissions
- Don’t submit to hundreds of random directories.
- Don’t pay for “guaranteed rankings”.
- Don’t create near-duplicate location pages just to drop a city name.
What to record
Keep a simple spreadsheet: directory name, URL, login, listed NAP, and last updated date. This prevents drift over time.
